Une nouvelle neutralisation en raison d'huile laissée sur la piste entre la chicane Michelin et les stands par la Courage Peugeot n°18 d'Eric Hélary...

 

 

 

Les trois Audi dominent toujours la 70e édition des 24 Heures du Mans. Une 10e heure qui débute plutôt mal pour Audi. La R8 n°2 de Johnny Herbert est victime d'une crevaison. Un incident qui lui fait perdre la 2e place.

En tête, les trois Audi impriment un rythme infernal aux autres concurrents. Ainsi, la Bentley n°8 est déjà à 4 tours du leader précédant la Cadillac n°6 de Christophe Tinseau et la Dallara Oreca n°15 pilotée par Olivier Beretta.

En LMP 675, la MG n°27 de Kevin McGarrity évolue à la 12e place.

 

En LM GTS, la bagarre fait rage entre la Ferrari 550 Maranello n°58 de Rickard Rydell (14e) et la Corvette officielle n°63 pilotée par Johnny O'Connell (15e). Les deux voitures sont séparées par deux tours. Enfin en GT, la Porsche GT3 du Freisinger n°80 mène la danse à la 26e position.

1h15, nouvelle alerte chez Audi. La n°3 est rentrée dans son stand avec un problème de tableau de bord. La Viper GTS-R n°50 de Patrick Goueslard est également arrêtée à son stand avec des problèmes de démarreur. La Ferrari 360 Modena Auto Palace n°74 est au ralenti sur le circuit avec des soucis d'alternateur.

Arrêtée à son stand depuis 22h18, la Panoz Elan n°11 de Bryan Herta n'a toujours pas repris la piste. Victime d'une surchauffe moteur, le joint de culasse est particulièrement abîmé. L'équipe Panoz Motor Sports réserve encore son pronostic.

Quinze minutes plus tard, Eric Hélary (Courage Peugeot n°18) arrache le meilleur temps de l'auto en 3'41"391, au moment même où est confirmé un 7e abandon concernant la Saleen S7R n°67 de Walter Brun arrêtée sur le circuit.

De l'huile sur la piste déposée à Indianapolis par la Courage Peugeot n°18 d'Eric Hélary et une nouvelle neutralisation à 1 h57. " J'ai effectué un tête à queue à la chicane Michelin parce que de l'huile s'est répandue sur mes pneus arrière ", explique le Français qui était aux commandes. Le V6 Sodemo a rendu l'âme.

Alors que la neutralisation se poursuit, le classement est le suivant après 11 heures de course : les trois Audi (n°1, n°2 et n°3) poursuivent leur petit bonhomme de chemin aux trois premières places, devant la Bentley n°8, la Cadillac n°6 et la Dallara Oreca n°15.

En GTS, la Ferrari n°58 domine sa catégorie à la 14e place devant les deux Corvette officielles (n°63 et n° 64).

The three Audis are still on top in the 70th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A1 0th hour that starts off with problems for Audi. Johnny Herbert's #2 R8 fell victim to a flat. An event that cost him 2nd place.

In the LMGTS category, the war is waging on between Rickard Rydell's #58 Maranello Ferrari 550 (14th) and the #63 works Corvette driven by Johnny O'Connell (15th). Two laps separate the two cars. Finally in the GT category, Freisinger's GT3 Porsche (#80) is leading the dance in 26th place.

1:15 am: A new alert at Audi. The #3 returned to its pit with a dashboard problem. Patrick Goueslard's #50 GTS-R Viper is also stopped in the pits with starter problems. Auto Palace's 360 Modena Ferrari (#74) is slowed down on the track with alternator problems.

Stopped in its pit since 10:18 pm, Bryan Herta's #11 Panoz-Elan has still not rejoined the race. Suffering from an overheated engine, the gasket is heavily damaged. The Panoz Motor Sports team is still reserving its prognosis.

15 minutes later, Eric Helary (#18 Courage-Peugeot) earned his best car time lapping in 3:41.391, while at that very moment, the 7th retirement was confirmed for Walter Brun's #67 Saleen S7R.
1:57 am, oil on the track at the Indianapolis curve leaked by Eric Helary's #18 Courage-Peugeot, and the track goes red for the second time. "I spun out in the Michelin Chicane because of oil on my rear tires. They can say that it's over for us" explained Eric Helary who was driving the French car. The Sodemo V6 died.

 

As the red flag continued, the standings are as follows after 11 hours of racing: The three Audis (#1, #2, and #3) are steadily moving towards their objective of the top three slots ahead of the #8 Bentley, the #6 Cadillac, and the #15 Dallara-Oreca.

In the GTS category, the #58 Ferrari is in control at 14th place ahead of both works Corvettes (#63 and #64).
