En dehors de quelques frayeurs pour la Dome Judd n°16 du Racing for Holland qui a été contrainte de rejoindre son stand pour effectuer un changement de boîte de vitesse et plus tard pour vérifier la température du moteur, rien à signaler dans le haut du tableau chez les favoris.

 

 

 

Pour Cadillac, les années se suivent et se ressemblent. En effet, le constructeur américain qui pointe toujours dans le groupe de tête au petit matin, voit une fois de plus ses chances s'envoler dans les dernières heures de course. Là-encore, les Northstar n'ont pas fait exception à la règle et ont enchaîné les problèmes de batterie et de démarreur. Les arrêts successifs dans leur stand ont donc repoussé la n°6 et la n°7, aux 9e et 12e places.

L'hymne américain retentira quand même au Mans grâce au tir groupé des Corvette C5R en tête de la catégorie GTS. De même qu'en GT, The Racer Group portera également haut et fort les couleurs de la bannière étoilée.

En revanche en LMP 675, la lutte est restée incertaine jusqu'au bout. En effet, la WR a été victime d'un rupture de suspension à moins d'une heure de l'arrivée, puis est rentrée de nouveau au stand sur trois roues à 15h55, alors qu'elle menait toujours devant la Reynard Roc du team Noël Del Bello. Celle-ci a pris la tête de sa catégorie, tandis que la WR a pu repartir in extremis et passer le drapeau à damier.

In contrast, in the LMP 675 category, the outcome of the battle remained uncertain down to the wire. The WR sustained suspension damage at less than an hour from the finish, requiring the car to make an additional pit stop at 3:55pm while continuing to lead the class over the Noel Del Bello Reynard/Roc. All the Reynard/Roc needed to do, and did successfully, was to pass the WR in the last lap, thus finishing first in class and 19th overall.
