RGR Sport by Morand a annoncé le 03/02/2016 son engagement au Championnat du Monde d'endurance FIA 2016 (WEC) avec les pilotes Ricardo Gonzalez, Bruno Senna et Filipe Albuquerque dans la catégorie LMP2*.L’équipe RGR Sport by Morand sera la seule écurie sous drapeau mexicain en WEC, dans la continuité de l’annonce de la nouvelle épreuve du championnat du monde à Mexico City, Mexique, dès la saison 2016.
L’implication de Ricardo Gonzalez au sein de RGR Sport by Morand s’étend au-delà du volant ; après s’être fait un nom dans le milieu automobile suite à sa victoire aux 24 Heures du Mans et son titre de champion du monde dans la catégorie LMP2 en 2013, il ajoute à présent le rôle de propriétaire d’écurie à son curriculum vitae. Le propriétaire/pilote joint ses forces en 2016 à celles de Morand Racing afin d’exploiter la #43 RGR Sport by Morand Ligier JSP2/Nissan/Dunlop.
A ses côtés dans sa quête d’un second titre de champion du monde se retrouvent deux des meilleurs pilotes de la planète. Senna fait son retour en FIA WEC pour la première fois depuis 2014. Avec un programme 2016 comprenant une participation complète au championnat FIA Formule E et un engagement en tant que pilote d’usine pour McLaren, l’importante expérience de Senna en Formule 1 et ses différentes participations aux 24 Heures Le Mans en ont fait un choix évident pour RGR Sport by Morand. Albuquerque apparaissait quant à lui comme une autre évidence, son expérience sur les épreuves européennes et ses succès en endurance parlant d’eux-mêmes; sa victoire aux 24 Heures de Daytona et ses deux participations aux 24 Heures Le Mans dans la catégorie LMP1 au volant d’une Audi Sport Team Joest. Le pilote d’usine Audi gardera ses gants de course chauds en 2016 en participant également à la Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup.

Après deux saisons consécutives en ELMS, le WEC était mon objectif principal pour 2016. Avec l’expérience de Ricardo en WEC, celle de Bruno en Formule 1 et la mienne en tant que pilote usine Audi, je pense que nous avons un équipage très équilibré. En conséquence, il ne me paraît pas déraisonnable de viser la victoire au Mans et le titre dans le championnat du monde.

RGR Sport by Morand announced today that it will debut in the 2016 season of the FIA World Endurance Championship with drivers Ricardo Gonzalez, Bruno Senna, and Filipe Albuquerque in the LMP2 category.* The squad will become the only Mexican team in the WEC, hot off the heels of the world championship announcing a new round in Mexico City, Mexico in 2016.
Gonzalez’s responsibilities with RGR Sport by Morand go beyond the steering wheel. After making a name for himself as a driver in the global racing community, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the LMP2 world championship in 2013, he now will add Team Owner to his resumé. The owner/driver joins forces in 2016 with Morand Racing to operate the #43 RGR Sport by Morand Ligier JSP2/Nissan/Dunlop machine.
Joining Gonzalez on his crusade to claim another world championship title are two of the top drivers in the world. Senna returns to the FIA WEC for the first time since 2014. Along with keeping his race craft sharp with a full FIA Formula E schedule and as a factory driver for McLaren, Senna’s extensive experience as a Formula One driver and various starts at the 24 Hours of Le Mans are what made him an obvious choice for RGR Sport by Morand. Albuquerque was another must for the team due to his roots on the European circuit and success in endurance racing; winning the 24 Hours of Daytona and two 24 Hours of Le Mans starts in the LMP1 class with Audi Sport Team Joest. The Audi factory driver will be keeping his race gloves warm in 2016 with by also competing in the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup.
